La Vista is currently one of the fastest growing cities in the State of Nebraska. It is a relatively young and progressive city situated southwest of the Omaha metropolitan area contiguous to the cities of Bellevue, Ralston, Papillion and Omaha.

Strategically located only minutes from Offutt Air Force Base, Eppley Airfield and the interstate system, La Vista has grown quickly to a community of over 17,000. The city lies within the Greater Omaha area labor shed boasting a total labor force of 960,000.

Since 1998, the city has platted over 900 acres of residential subdivisions, 300 acres of commercial property and 800 acres of industrial business parks. La Vista has become home to a number of market leading businesses because of its location and commitment of the Mayor and City Council to envision the city’s future in partnership with its corporate citizens.

The city is excited about Southport, a 250 acre commercial development envisioned as an upscale retail and office park destination. Cabela’s, Inc., the World’s Foremost Outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, has opened one of its superstores in this development, anchoring the site as a prominent retail location. With the addition of the Courtyard Marriott as well as a John Q. Hammons Embassy Suites Hotel and La Vista Conference Center, Southport is quickly becoming a major destination not only for citizens of La Vista, but for people throughout the region.

Many large, national businesses have chosen La Vista as a great place to grow. Some of the largest employers in Sarpy County are located in La Vista. These include PayPal (an Ebay company), Streck Laboratories, Inc, CSG Systems, Inc, Rotella’s Bakery, Education Service Unit #3, Oriental Trading Co. and Claas Omaha.

A comprehensive plan was completed by Hanna:Keelan Associates of Lincoln, Nebraska in 1997 to create a master plan for the community. As a part of that plan a housing analysis was conducted. Developers and contractors stepped up and gaps in housing were filled as a result of the study. For a copy of that portion of the plan, please click on the following link.

La Vista Comprehensive Plan – Chapter 6: Housing

The City of La Vista is now working on an update of that study. It is anticipated that the new study will be available in late 2013.

La Vista lies immediately south of the city of Omaha in northern Sarpy County, which is in eastern Nebraska. Transportation needs are served by State Highway 50 (84th Street) and Interstate 80. The Burlington Northern Railroad traverses through La Vista, connected to a nation-wide network. Coupled with Nebraska's central location and major transportation companies like Werner Enterprises, many area firms take advantage of national shipping opportunities.

La Vista is just 15 miles from Eppley Airfield. The airport is served by nine national air carriers and three regional airlines with direct flights to most major United States cities and connecting flights to points throughout the world. Eppley served over 4.2 million passengers in 2011. Four general aviation airports in the metropolitan area are open to the public, including Millard Airport along the northern edge of La Vista.
