A new Directed Health Measure (DHM) in effect Monday, May 4, will continue to restrict several aspects of La Vista operations.
First, the public gathering restriction of 10 or less will still be in effect for the month of May so City of La Vista facilities, including playgrounds and park shelters will be closed until at least May 31.
The facility restrictions also apply to the La Vista Swimming Pool, which will not open Memorial Day weekend and the opening has been delayed until further notice. When the health limitations for the summer months are known, the City will determine whether not to open the pool.
Finally, youth and adult sports are also restricted in the DHM, which means those programs are postponed through at least May 31. Recreation staff are working with area sport leagues and providers to find a way to still offer these programs this year and are exploring options such as abbreviated seasons.
“We are committed to beginning our sports leagues as soon as we are given clearance to do so, and we still hope to be able to open our pool for the summer. But we cannot give specific dates until we know more about how and when restrictions will be relaxed,” said Mayor Douglas Kindig. “I understand this is frustrating for families who paid for these sports and want to visit our pool this summer, and I promise we will let you know as soon as a decision has been made.”

The new DHM also gives restaurants the ability to reopen their dining rooms if they follow certain procedures. A list of La Vista restaurants and their status as of today is available on the City’s COVID-19 portion of the website.
