The City of La Vista has been successful in obtaining grants from the Nebraska Environmental Trust, the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, and the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District for Thompson Creek Watershed Restoration activities. These activities include channel restoration, public education and outreach concerning water quality and water quantity management. There will also be demonstration projects illustrating methods to improve water quality and reduce runoff quantity.
These activities are expected to occur over the next three years. The City has hired a team of consultants to design various components of the Watershed Restoration Plan. The initial design team meeting was held on May 13, 2013. The team consists of RDG Planning and Design from Omaha, TD2 Engineering and Surveying from Omaha, and Applied Ecological Services from Prior Lake, MN.
The first major design activity will consist of designing channel stabilization for Thompson Creek between 72nd Street and the east edge of the La Vista Falls Golf Course in Central Park. In the next few weeks survey crews will be working in the area. Later this summer there will be some public information activities to provide updates on the channel plans and watershed management activities. Please check back for additional information and dates of public information meetings.
The Thompson Creek Watershed Restoration Project has been made possible by grants received from the Nebraska Environmental Trust, EPA Section 319 funds distributed by the Nebraska Department of Environmental Control, and the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District.
