- The consultant design team continues to work on the channel rehabilitation plans. Currently the plans are about 30% complete and a cost estimate is being prepared. The next task for the team is to prepare grant applications which are to be submitted by September 3, 2013. The City Council is expected to consider authorizing these grant applications at their August 20 Council meeting.
- Members from the design team assisted City staff in hosting a Thompson Creek Watershed Restoration information booth at the National Night Out on August 6, 2013. Approximately 40 persons stopped by the information booth. Seven survey forms were completed by residents that was designed to assess the interest of residents in participating in storm water runoff programs for Thompson Creek. This survey can be found on the City web site at www.cityoflavista.org/FormCenter/La-Vista-Forms-3/Thompson-Creek-Resident-Survey-76. This survey will be available to fill out until October 1, 2013. Here is a link to the PowerPoint presentation that was playing during the event.
- During September an Open House is anticipated that will present more specifics on the channel plans and allow for public comment and particularly for residents abutting the creek. More information on time and place of the Open House will be forthcoming.
- City staff and the consultant design team met with personnel from the USGS and the University of Nebraska Omaha to discuss monitoring the environmental conditions as well as water quality and quantity measurements in Thompson Creek. Monitoring of conditions will be performed before and after construction in an effort to document progress in management of storm water in the Thompson Creek Watershed.
- The design team and City staff are beginning to set a schedule and determine content for public education events, open houses, and citizen participation programs. Watch for more information in future postings.
