Streetscape Plan
The concept design phase is underway for the Corridor 84 Streetscape Project, which focuses on the space between the road and private property, from Harrison Street to Giles Road.
The first public meeting on Tuesday, November 14 at City Hall was well attended, and participants voted for a preferred design concept through live polling. This meeting, combined with an online survey, provided the feedback needed to define a preferred alternative for the streetscape design.

The second public meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 17, at City Hall, and at this meeting, the design team will present the preferred alternative for the project and seek input on various design elements.

City staff and consultants then met with various entities to refine the design, which ensured coordination with other Corridor 84 projects including Civic Center Park and the City Centre development.
The preferred alternative design includes sculptural landform, feature walls, shared-use trails, groupings of trees, and masses of ornamental planting. Plaza spaces will provide key links to nearby development.
In this approach, intersections are slightly modified to be more accommodating for pedestrians. Wayfinding, signage, and a bridge-like feature are recognizable icons that will create a memorable identity for La Vista.
Roadway and pedestrian lighting will be enhanced to improve safety. Drainage channels and basins along the roadway are enhanced to filter and clean the stormwater runoff prior to reaching Thompson Creek.
All design elements work together to create and define a more park-like environment for the street.
Once known as the "Golden Mile", 84th Street in La Vista is a shadow of its former self as a thriving commercial corridor.
A vision plan for 84th Street proposed a corridor with a distinct identity, a rich mix of uses and destinations, and a sense of community and high quality of life.
With redevelopment projects in the works, what was once a plan, Vision 84 has become Corridor 84, which is the plan in action. The Corridor 84 Streetscape Plan includes design elements such as benches, landscaping, signage and wayfinding and lighting.
The streetscape plan focuses on the corridor’s right-of-way, the space between the road and private property, from Harrison Street to Giles Road.
The plan is an important component of the overall vision for 84th Street because it will assist in the authentic expression of La Vista’s identity while creating a sense of place for the one of city’s main north/south corridors.
Corridor 84 corridor should provide opportunities for social interaction, for the promotion of health and well-being and it should meet the needs of pedestrians and the community well into the future.
The Corridor 84 Streetscape Plan will help establish character of a new kind of Golden Mile—one built for the 21st century and beyond.
